Volunteers running back Pig Howard could probably use a drink.
Tennessee was this close to the biggest win in coach Butch Jones’ young career in Knoxville. Having played Georgia to a 31-31 tie, the Vols were on offense first in overtime. Immediately, they started making headway against a young, overmatched Bulldogs defense.
When quarterback Justin Worley handed the ball to Howard, it looked like he was about to make a play good enough for SportCenter’s No. 1 spot. Stretching out his body to get into the end zone, however, Howard lost his grip on the football and fumbled it out of the end zone.
The play was ruled a touchback, Georgia was given the ball, and a few plays later kicked a field goal for the 34-31 win. Devastating.
