Despite 162 regular season games, the Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers could not settle their playoff aspirations and needed a 163rd game to determine who would be moving on to the postseason.
Obviously, Monday night’s game in Arlington was pretty important.
However, that couldn’t keep the umps from blowing what looks like a pretty straightforward call on a Delmon Young line drive. Centerfielder Leonys Martin dives for the ball and traps it after a big bounce. The umps ruled it an out in what could have been a crucial call.
As it turns out, it wasn’t. The Rays still pulled out the “W,” 5-2, and will advance to the postseason.
