The game-ending play in the 2013 Iron Bowl will go down as one of the greatest moments in college football history. Just a month before, however, a high school football team executed nearly the exact same play.
It begins with an ill-fated field goal attempt by De LaSalle (Michigan), and the score tied at 14. From there, a Catholic Central (Michigan) player returns the missed kick from the end zone. He streaks up the left sideline all the way to the end zone, winning the game, 20-14.
At the end of the play a person can be heard saying, “That was the dumbest call in the history of football, that they took that field goal.” Considering Nick Saban made the same call nearly a month later, does that make the coach any smarter? Or maybe Saban simply repeated the dumbest call in the history of football.
