The interception was excellent; the execution afterwards wasn’t. Iowa defensive back John Lowdermilk made a costly brain fart and dropped the ball just before breaking the goal line on his pick-six attempt.
Lowdermilk intercepted LSU quarterback Anthony Jennings and returned the ball 71 yards before dropping it at the 1-yard line. Fortunately for Lowdermilk, the Hawkeyes scored three plays later on a Mark Weisman touchdown run, helping to ease the pain of this mistake.
LSU ended up beating Iowa, 21-14, to win the 2014 Outback Bowl.
