Jameis Winston’s attorney takes Heather Cox to task on Twitter

Following Florida State’s ACC title game victory over Duke, ESPN sideline reporter Heather Cox interviewed star quarterback Jameis Winston.

Cox asked Winston questions relating to both the game, as well as the recent sexual assault investigation he underwent. After approximately a minute and a half, Winston was pulled away from the interview.

Winston’s attorney, Tim Jansen, was watching the game, and was unhappy with what he saw. He took to Twitter to call Cox out, even asking her to write him, Winston and Winston’s family a note.

On Sunday Cox told Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch that FSU agreed to the interview “with no restrictions,” and that Florida State was fully aware of her intent to ask questions related to the investigation.

Being that the game was such a blowout, Cox decided it would be better to focus on questions “that everyone wanted to know.” She led with a game-related question, then asked questions referencing the investigation and how it affected Winston and his team. Cox said that her last questions, which she didn’t have the opportunity to ask, related to Winston’s upcoming month, including the Heisman Trophy and other award presentations.
