For Marcus Mariota and the Oregon Ducks, Thursday’s night loss was crippling. For FSU and Jameis Winston, however, it was just what the doctor ordered.
In a matter of three and a half hours, Winston and the Seminoles went from staring up at the Ducks to sitting on top of them. Famous Jameis is now the odds on favorite to win the 2013 Heisman Trophy, according to Sportsbook.com. His odds sit at 1/5, while Mariota’s have dropped to 20/1.
Next in line behind Winston is reigning winner Johnny Manziel at 3/1. While Winston is all the rage, we wouldn’t start counting out Manziel just yet. His rushing totals are down just a bit, but his passing numbers have soared through the roof. On the whole, Manziel’s numbers are better this season than last. To fully grasp what that means, consider that last year Johnny Football put together a more prolific season than both Cam Newton and Tim Tebow during their respective Heisman seasons.
Rounding out the top five are Bryce Petty (8/1) and AJ McCarron (10/1).
While Winston has stolen the spotlight thus far, there is still a lot of football left to play. Manziel, Petty, and McCarron are all still in this thing.
