Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston was awarded the Heisman Trophy on Saturday evening. He becomes the 79th player to take home college football’s most prestigious award.
Winston had a remarkable redshirt freshman season, leading the Florida State Seminoles to a 12-0 regular season record and an ACC title. His Seminoles will face the Auburn Tigers in the 2014 BCS National Championship Game on January 6.
On the season, Winston threw for 3,820 yards and 38 touchdowns, compared to only 10 interceptions. He becomes the second ever (redshirt) freshman to take home the award, following Johnny Manziel’s watershed victory in 2012. Winston is also the youngest winner of the award, at 19 years of age.
