Bret Bielema had just led his Wisconsin Badgers to a third consecutive Rose Bowl berth. Sconnie Nation was busy booking flights to La La Land when a report came out that we could hardly believe to be true: Good ol’ Bert, the hand-picked successor to Barry Alvarez, had ditched out on his players and his program. He had accepted the open head coaching job at Arkansas.
Fast forward to Saturday. The players he had recruited – and, again, then unceremoniously ditched – lost in unnecessarily bizarre fashion to Arizona State. Quarterback Joel Stave thought he had stopped the clock with enough time for a game-winning field goal, but the Sun Devils and then the refs delayed the snap too long and the game was over.
After that, Bert’s wife, Jen, poured salt on the wound with just one word: #Karma.
Keep it classy, Bielema family.
