NFL Combine expert Mike Mayock had predicted that former Notre Dame star linebacker Manti Te’o needed to run anywhere under 4.8 seconds in the 40-yard dash in order to remain a lock to be taken in the first round of the upcoming 2013 NFL Draft.
He didn’t, posting a time of 4.81 seconds — potentially a difference of millions of dollars in terms of where he will be selected in the Draft.
John Harbaugh, for one, was not impressed. The Baltimore Ravens head coach is coming off of a Super Bowl victory, but after the trophy ceremonies, ticker-tape parades and interviews comes the dirty work.
Harbaugh must find someone to replace Hall of Famer Ray Lewis at the middle linebacker position. Many had thought that, with the No. 32-overall selection, Te’o would be a prize if he slipped that far.
From the looks of his reaction here, however, Harbaugh might be staying as far away from the Heisman Trophy runner-up as possible.
