Welcome to the first edition of This Week in Johnny Football News. We are fortunate to have some legs on the ground in College Station that are able to provide us with an inside scoop on Aggies football and all things Johnny Manziel. For the sake of being able to bring you these updates, we will keep these “sources” anonymous.
Let’s see what Mr. Football was up to this week.
Sources say that despite what Kevin Sumlin said in his postgame interview, he actually loved Johnny Manziel’s celebrations. He wasn’t mad about the signing or payday taunts. He was ticked over the scoreboard point, however. Sumlin apparently thought it was too generic, and expected more showmanship out of his superstar.
Sumlin gave Johnny Football extra homework this week. On top of watching game film for the Sam Houston State game, Sumlin has Manziel reviewing top celebrations in football history. One teammate says Manziel has been, “dissecting TO, Ochocinco, Steve Smith, Joe Horn, Ickey Woods … all the greats.”
In addition to film study, coach Sumlin has his quarterback using a new celebration after every touchdown in practice. Sources say Manziel has done the bowling pin, fishing, and grenade celebrations with his linemen after rushing touchdowns. After a pass he likes to go solo with the Superman or chicken dance. Multiple sources tell us not to be surprised if he, “goes all Desmond Howard,” with a Heisman pose. There’s also speculation that Johnny Football is practicing his rain dance for the Alabama game.
As it looks now, the Rice game was just a warm-up for an exciting season.
