Johnny Manziel didn’t vote himself first for 2013 Heisman

Johnny Manziel won the Heisman Trophy in 2012, becoming the first (redshirt) freshman to ever lay claim to college football’s most prestigious individual award. As part of the reward for taking home the stiff-armed statue, Manziel gets to cast a vote in the Heisman Trophy balloting every year.

That means, even though he’s still playing, Manziel is able to vote on who he thinks should win the Heisman in 2013.

During media availability at the Home Depot College Football Awards show on Thursday, he opened up to reporters on his vote. Manziel didn’t place himself in the top two, but also didn’t go into any details on who he did select.

Despite another stellar year for Manziel, the Aggies lost four games during the regular season. It’s often hard for a player, whose team is not in the national championship discussion, or has no signature win, to take home the Heisman.
