An already battered Texas defense just took another huge hit. According to the school’s official Twitter account, junior weakside linebacker Jordan Hicks suffered a torn Achilles during the Longhorns’ 31-21 win over Kansas State on Saturday.

Hicks missed the last 10 games of the 2012 season with a hip issue, but was looking forward to making a huge impact at full strength this year.

Former defensive coordinator Manny Diaz’s defense was shredded by BYU and his replacement, Greg Robinson, did not fare much better against Ole Miss in Week 3. However, Hicks served as one of the very few bright spots on a poor unit. Now done for the year, he bows out as the team’s leader with 35 total tackles. The next player on the list has only recorded 25.

Hicks was granted a medical redshirt in 2012, and entered this season with two years of eligibility remaining.

Longhorn Nation is wishing him a safe and speedy recovery.
