The moment Florida fans have been waiting for all season has finally come. On Monday, head coach Will Muschamp announced that true freshman running back Kelvin Taylor will be starting for the Gators against Georgia.
“He deserves the opportunity,” Muschamp said of Taylor.
With Matt Jones out for the season, and Florida’s offense looking for any kind of spark, Muschamp has elected to go with the young, hot hand. Taylor was one of the lone offensive bright spots in Florida’s losses to LSU and Missouri. In those two outings, he carried the ball 10 times for 52 yards and 12 for 74 yards, respectively.
Taylor is the son of former Florida and Jacksonville Jaguars legend Fred Taylor. The younger Taylor gets his first start on the very field his dad roamed for 11 NFL seasons.
