Love must be in the air for young faces of franchises. Over the weekend, Washington Redskins quarterback and 2012 Rookie of the Year Robert Griffin III got married, which fans, friends and members of the media all knew was happening.

What comes to us as a surprise is the reported engagement of Oklahoma City superstar Kevin Durant to Monica Wright. First reported by Kent Youngblood of the Star Tribune, Wright is a guard/forward for the 2011 WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx and was a longtime friend of Durant’s before the two started dating months ago.

Hollywood Life details the path both young ballers took towards the other:

After being close friends since high school, linked by their successful basketball careers, the couple reportedly took things to the next level months ago. But romance has long been on Kevin’s mind: in 2011 he tweeted, “Or maybe I need a basketball playing girlfriend…hmm lol…monica wright where r u(love and basketball).”

And the feelings of love and admiration clearly go both ways. After Kevin donated $1 million to the tornado relief in Oklahoma, Monica gushed about her man: “He’s got a heart of gold, and anytime (something like) this happens, he’s the first one who wants to help,” Monica told FoxSportsNorth. “He’s a really compassionate guy.”

Interestingly, Wright was the No. 2-overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft, and Durant was No. 2-overall in 2007. The Beatles sang about how “one” is the loneliest number, perhaps Durant and Wright had it all figured out.

Check out Wright making moves in the photo below. Underneath is a photo of the both of them getting close for a selfie.
