LeBron James says Allen Iverson may be best ‘pound for pound’ player ever to play basketball

In mid-October, LeBron James told ESPN’s Chris Broussard that he believes Michael Jordan is the greatest to ever play the game of basketball. However, he also surprised some in talking about how impressed he was growing up watching Allen Iverson.

Barely standing six feet tall and weighing 165 pounds, AI was never the biggest player on an NBA court. However, size didn’t stop him from dominating, night in and night out, for several years.

On Monday, King James reiterated his belief that Iverson was truly something special.

For reference, here is what James had to say about AI to Broussard:

“I watch Jordan more than anybody, for sure. But I’ll watch tapes of AI [Allen Iverson] too. I don’t take anything from AI. Well, I do — his will. They say he was six feet, but AI was like 5’10½”. Do we even want to say 160? 170? Do we even want to give him that much weight? And he played like a 6’8″ 2-guard. He was one of the greatest finishers we’ve ever seen. You could never question his heart. Ever. He gave it his all. AI was like my second favorite player growing up, after MJ.”

Here’s a fun fact: Allen Iverson is the only player in the history of the NBA to average at least 20.0 points per game while measuring in at 6-foot or shorter.

King James knows a baller when he sees one.
