You wanted better out-of-conference competition, and you got it.

The LSU Tigers have officially announced their season-opening contest time and date. Coach Les Miles’ squad will be taking on the TCU Horned Frogs in Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas in the ‘Cowboys Classic’.

Mark your calendars: The kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT on August 31, the SEC announced on Tuesday.

The last time these two teams met was way back in 1968. LSU won that contest, 10-7, in a slugfest. The Bayou Bengals lead the Horned Frogs all-time, 5-2-1.

LSU also participated in the 2011 Cowboys Classic, dominating Oregon, 40-27. Should the rebuilding Tigers manage to do the same against coach Gary Patterson’s always competitive squad, the program will have opened the year with a bang and will carry solid momentum into the conference gauntlet.

But it won’t be easy: TCU may be a dark-horse candidate for an undefeated season
