Continuing its trend of scheduling big out-of-conference games, LSU announced new home-and-home deals with UCLA and Arizona State on Monday.
The Tigers will travel to Pasadena on Sept. 4, 2021, and will welcome the Bruins to Baton Rouge on Aug. 31, 2024. Sandwiched in between the UCLA games, LSU will open another series against a Pac-12 team – this time ASU. The Tigers will head to Tempe on Sept. 10, 2022, before welcoming the Sun Devils to the bayou on Sept. 9, 2023.
LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva is excited about the opportunity to schedule these games. The following according to LSUSports.net:
“It’s our goal to play as an attractive non-conference schedule as possible. Getting teams to agree to a home-and-home series is very difficult but we will continue to make every attempt to bring a BCS-conference caliber opponent to Tiger Stadium.”
“Scheduling is very difficult and done many years in advance. It’s important that you put together a schedule that prepares your team for the rigorous SEC schedule but also one that has balance so that your team is ready both mentally and physically for the conference slate. I think the addition of these teams to our future schedules gives us that.”
With the College Football Playoff taking hold in 2014, expect more teams to beef up their schedules by heading out of conference.
