For years, Mariano Rivera has put together Hall of Fame ninth-inning performances in Yankee Stadium, but not before trotting out onto the field with Enter Sandman blasting on all speakers.
This is the 43-year old legend’s final year in the Bigs before he hangs ’em up forever, and even opposing teams have started getting in on the fun.
The Tampa Bay Rays have been on the wrong end of so many of those Rivera saves over the course of their short and at times not-so-stellar existence. That did not matter on Friday night, however, as the franchise honored Rivera with a very literal Sandman.
Always soft-spoken, Rivera did not say much regarding the massive sand sculpture.
Pretty cool, if we say so ourselves. For those wondering, this is how a future first-ballot Hall of Famer and true class act enters a baseball game.
