Kentucky Sports Radio has reported Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops has accepted the head coaching position for the Kentucky football program. Stoops will be replacing Joker Phillips after an abysmal 13-24 record over three seasons with the Wildcats.
Stoops is reportedly still coaching in Tallahassee, getting the Seminoles ready for their ACC Championship game against Georgia Tech on December 1. Coach Stoops has led the Seminoles’ defense since 2009, where they have been one of the more consistent and at times dominant defensive squads in the country. Stoops had been a D-I assistant coach since 1996, but he has never been a head coach in the college ranks.
He will be taking over a program that will have to compete with the last six BCS National champions and will look to reverse the 4-20 SEC record the Cats’ put together under Phillips.
