After winning the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s best receiver in 2012, all-world USC wideout Marqise Lee would have been a high NFL Draft pick had he not been a year away from professional eligibility.
So when the best chance Lane Kiffin has of keeping his coaching position past the 2013 season went down with an injury, the collective breath of all of Trojan Nation was held in worried anticipation.
Everyone can relax, however. Lee exited practice with the same shoulder issues that had caused a few ripples recently, but the young superstar stated that he is fine.
So, we have concluded that Lee is healthy, which is fantastic.
But is he happy right now?
That’s another story altogether. Kiffin is still wrestling with the decision as to which unproven guy is actually going to be throwing passes to Lee at Hawaii on Thursday, Aug. 29 – literally eight days away as of writing. Max Wittek is the one who replaced Matt Barkley towards the end of last season when the senior went down with a shoulder injury. However, he was less than impressive in losing to Notre Dame and then Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl, opening up offseason competition to Cody Kessler.
Competition generally brings out the best or worst in a person. Lee thinks it’s “crazy,” however, that Kiffin has yet to see the best or worst in Wittek and Kessler to name one the starter over the other.
Just imagine how much worse it would be if that was Terrell Owens talking instead of Lee.
