Matt Harvey is one of the biggest building blocks the Mets currently have in the franchise. The 24-year old pitcher put together a dominant season, but now faces the prospect of offseason rehab following a partial UCL tear in his elbow.

During a Wednesday interview with Dan Patrick, the analyst was hoping to ask the budding star about the headlines he made in announcing that he will forgo Tommy John surgery. It’s a peculiar choice that many would love to hear the reasoning behind. However, all Harvey wanted to talk about was … cell phone company Qualcomm. What?

Typically, a media outlet, such as the DP Show, will trade an interview with an athlete for the endorsement of a product. This not only caught Patrick and his crew off guard, but also seemed like a pretty big fail on the part of Harvey.

Take a listen to the video and then browse down the reactions from Twitter.

From MetsBlog:

Patrick acknowledged Harvey’s role as pitch man, but turned back to baseball, asking him what Tommy John surgery meant to him as a professional baseball player, to which Harvey responded:

“Umm, it’s something everyone knows about, but I did all of those answers yesterday and maybe at the appropriate time we can talk about that. But, today is about Qualcomm.”

This, ladies and gents, is what the world of Twitter knows as an #EpicFail.

And last, but certainly not least …

*UPDATE* There will be redemption for Matt Harvey. According to Paul Pabst, Harvey will appear on Thursday morning’s show at 10 a.m. EST.
