Like clockwork, Mel Kiper Jr. has released his updated, NFL Mock Draft 4.0 for 2014. With less than a month to go until draft day, Kiper has the Houston Texans drafting Jadeveon Clowney with the No. 1 selection. If the Texans do take Clowney, the former Gamecock will bookend a scary defensive line with superstar J.J. Watt.
Following Clowney is Auburn offensive tackle Greg Robinson. Kiper projects the St. Louis Rams to take Robinson with the No. 2 pick.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, who desperately need to find a reason for the country to tune into their games, are projected to take playmaking wide receiver Sammy Watkins at No. 3. Who will actually throw the football to Watkins is still a question mark.
Kiper projects the Cleveland Browns to take Johnny Manziel at No. 4, and the Minnesota Vikings to choose UCF QB Blake Bortles at No. 8.
One noticeable absence from the first round is Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. While Kiper projects him as the best QB available in this class, he has Bridgewater sliding down to the second round to the Houston Texans. If Kiper’s evaluation of talent is correct in this class, the Texans may just have a draft for the ages with Clowney and Bridgewater.
