The NCAA officially released its findings and punishments for Miami on Oct. 22 after a multi-year investigation.
The Hurricanes voluntarily held themselves out of the postseason following the 2011 and 2012 seasons. They also kept themselves from handing out the maximum scholarships available. Thus, when the NCAA was finally ready to dole out punishments, all it levied were three scholarship deductions per year for the next three years.
That means a Miami team competing for the ACC title in 2013 will be able to play in a bowl game. The Canes were given the news by athletic director Blake James, and after a few seconds’ delay, all the players went nuts in a meeting room.
Fast-forward to roughly the one-minute mark to check out the celebration, led by none other than coach Al Golden.
