Everyone knew Wisconsin’s foray into the desert to take on Arizona State was going to be tough . However, no one could have foreseen what was, quite frankly, one of the most bizarre endings you will ever see.

On Sunday, Fox analyst and officiating guru Mike Pereira weighed in on the kneel-down-that-wasn’t. Badgers quarterback Joel Stave thought he had downed the ball in the middle of the field, setting up an opportunity for a game-winning field goal. However, a Sun Devils defender fell on the ball, killing the game clock. Confusion reigned supreme, and for good reasons – Pereira says the referees were wrong in failing to give Wisconsin a chance to run one more play.

The refs’ failure to adhere to the rulebook they are expected to have memorized not only cost Wisconsin a chance at a game-winning field goal, but it also dropped the Badgers out of the Coaches’ Poll altogether.
