The entire city of Miami is at a loss for words after the news that Marlins ace Jose Fernandez had died early Sunday morning.
The Miami Marlins team has been obviously devastated, shedding tears during press conferences, pregame workouts, and especially during the emotional tribute held before the game.
One player who seemed truly devastated was Dee Gordon, who called Fernandez his brother on an Instagram post. The two players were very close and Gordon showed his love with a heroic effort during his first at-bat.
After taking the first pitch as a right-handed batter in honor of Fernandez, Gordon switched to his strong side and let it all go.
The second baseman connected with Bartolo Colon’s pitch and hit the ball out of the park, earning his first home run of the season.
Gordon was overcome with emotions as he rounded the bases, crying and throwing a hand up for his fallen brother. Take a look at the emotional series of events:

Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. He was scheduled to start on the mound against the New York Mets tonight.
