With UMass coming to Mad-Town, Sconnie Nation was excited to get its first look at first-year head coach Gary Andersen’s offensive scheme. He had promised to stick to Wisconsin’s run-first roots, but no one could have foreseen such a prolific afternoon.
That’s because the dynamic duo of James White and Melvin Gordon did something no other Wisconsin backfield has ever done. With at least 100 yards apiece on the ground, Wordon (White and Gordon, you can thank us later) became the first duo to ever break the century mark individually in a season opener.
Recently graduated Montee Ball left Madison with the most touchdowns of any player in the history of college football. Now with the Denver Broncos, however, the Baller was paying close attention to his two former teammates.
Obviously, Ball’s just kidding around; he’s probably more pumped than anyone to see these two making big moves. Wisconsin fans everywhere are kind of hoping Wordon blow up – more performances like Saturday’s may translate to a fourth consecutive Rose Bowl appearance.
