The Detroit Lions awoke to very unfortunate news early Tuesday morning. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, leading wide receiver Nate Burleson broke his arm in two places in a single-car accident.
The accident occurred while he was traveling down I-696 on his way home from watching Monday night’s Broncos vs. Raiders game.
Burleson was one of quarterback Matthew Stafford’s top targets, hauling in 19 catches through three games so far this season. He broke out this past Sunday against Washington, catching six passes for 116 yards.
The Lions stated that “there was no alcohol involved.”
This is Burleson’s second, big-time injury that will force him to sit out in as many years. Last season he suffered a broken leg and missed most of the season.
As of writing, there have been no further updates from the team on his condition or recovery.
