On Thursday, Naval Academy officials confirmed in a report by Military.com that three current Navy football players are being investigated for the sexual assault of a female midshipman.
The players themselves have yet to be publicly identified. Further, it has yet to be revealed when the investigation started or how long until it is finished.
“Naval Academy leadership is monitoring the progress of this investigation and evaluating the appropriate options for adjudication,” Naval Academy spokesman Cmdr. John Schofield said. “It is completely inappropriate to make any other public comment on this investigation or any ongoing investigation as we risk compromising the military justice process.”
Neither Academy superintendent Vice Admiral Michael Miller nor coach Ken Niumatalolo have commented on the situation.
We will keep you updated here as any new information is made available.
