The NBA has changed its schedule format for the Finals from 2-3-2 to 2-2-1-1-1. This means that after each team plays on it’s home court for two consecutive games, each subsequent game will alternate host cities.
Now that teams travel by private jets, this is a logical move on the league’s part. Prior to the change, every round but the Finals had the 2-2-1-1-1 format. Now there is equity amongst all the post-season rounds. Some critics believed that the old 2-3-2 format was detrimental to the team holding home-court advantage.
This could be the final motion pushed through by exiting commissioner David Stern. He steps down Februrary 1, 2014.
