Team USA played one of their final exhibition game against Puerto Rico on Friday night where they took home a victory, winning 112-86. The 16-man roster was widdled down to 12, leaving off Damian Lillard, who was expected to make the team.
In an interview with ESPN, Coach Mike Krzyzewski emphasized the need to have 5 or 6 big men on the team:
“Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski said after the Puerto Rico game that he had concluded keeping at least five and “possibly six” big men was a must to get through the tournament. The Americans will play nine games between Aug. 30 and Sept. 14, including a potential championship game against host Spain and its imposing frontcourt featuring Marc Gasol, Pau Gasol and Serge Ibaka.”
Team USA heads to Spain to take on Slovenia Tuesday night for their final game before the 2014 FIBA World Cup begins on August 30th.
