Fantasy junkies in New York can rejoice now!
After all the drama between DraftKings, FanDuel, and the state of New York last year, the New York legislature has passed a bill to legalize the daily fantasy football games.
The change comes after strong efforts from the Coke and Pepsi company to change the current laws, which New York’s Attorney General believed prohibited the gambling nature behind the daily fantasy games. On Friday, the cola companies got what they wanted with the legislature’s bill.
The bill must be approved and signed by New York governor Andrew Cuomo in order to become officially legal in the state.
Sites like DraftKings and FanDuel emerged as a byproduct of the 2006 federal law that made online gambling illegal and were doing well for themselves until advertisement drama became a forefront issue for the companies.
Since the widespread opposition against daily fantasy sites, DraftKings and FanDuel have toned it down a bit. But, this move in New York could really help out their case and bring them to the forefront of the fantasy and internet gambling industry.
