Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly named 2012 Coach of the Year

After accepting the Notre Dame head coaching position three years ago while leading a resurgent Cincinnati program, Brian Kelly said he obviously expected to win.

And win he has.

The nation’s most historically powerful program had suffered through roughly two decades of extremely lean years. Nobody expected the Irish to compete until Kelly could at least have had a chance to recruit a totally new crop of players.

However, Kelly’s planned trajectory was far more aggressive. In just his third season at the helm, Kelly has led the Irish to the nation’s only undefeated, bowl-eligible 12-0 record.

He was presented with the Home Depot Coach of the Year Award for his efforts.

The Award was given to him over Alabama’s Nick Saban, whom he will be facing in the BCS National Championship game.

Man this was the wrong choice. Look at what Will Muschamp has done. He took the Gators from 7-6 last year to 11-1 this year . He beat 4 of the top ten teams in the BCS. Had it not been for the 6 turnovers in the UGA game they would be in the National championship game. I still think they are the best team in college football this year.
