Opera star Renee Fleming to sing Super Bowl XLVIII national anthem

Super Bowl XLVIII has announced its opening act. Unfortunately for Seattle fans, it won’t include Macklemore. According to a report from The Associated Press, opera star Renee Fleming will sing the national anthem.

Fleming, 54, is a four-time Grammy winning soprano. She was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania and raised in Rochester, New York. In 2013, the United States awarded Fleming with the National Medal of Arts.

She will become the first opera star in Super Bowl history to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” on Sunday, Feb. 2. Kickoff of the game is scheduled for 6:25 p.m. ET.
