Joshua Smitherman, a diehard Auburn fan, made a call into the “Paul Finebaum Show” earlier in the season. He and Finebaum discussed the likelihood of a one-loss Auburn team making the title game over an undefeated power conference team. Towards the end of the call Finebaum made a promise: if Auburn were to run the rest of the table, and get into the BCS National Championship Game, he would take Smitherman to Pasadena with him.
“Boy I shouldn’t be doing this,” Finebaum stated. “But if Auburn does all that, and gets in the national championship game, I’ll take you to Pasadena, ok? You will go with me at the front of the line.”
The kicker to the whole issue may just be what “all that” means. Auburn didn’t have to jump an undefeated squad due to no other power conference teams running the table besides Florida State.
Smitherman claims that now Finebaum and the radio station are backing out of the promise. He posted the following to his Facebook on Thursday. You can listen to the exchange between the two in the video.
Do you think the Auburn fan has a point? Should Finebaum send him to Pasadena, or was the promise not fulfilled?
