Paul Pierce dominated the Boston basketball scene for well over a decade, winning the 2008 NBA championship and moving all the way up to No. 2 on the franchise’s career scoring list.
However, the Celtics and general manager Danny Ainge wanted to fast-forward the team’s rebuilding process. Pierce and fellow legend Kevin Garnett were both shipped to Brooklyn in a blockbuster draft night trade for Kris Humprhies, MarShon Brooks and several future first-round picks.
It was not a welcome trade, but a business decision made by Ainge and his staff. Pierce and KG now have a much better opportunity to win a second-career ring, but they will always be remembered for their time in the TD Center.
For that, Pierce only had one message for the fans of the great sports city: “Thank you.”
