First-year coach Chip Kelly waited longer than most Philadelphia fans were comfortable with, but on Tuesday he finally named the Eagles’ starting quarterback for Week 1 of the 2013 season: Michael Vick.
Fourth-round draft pick and former USC Trojans star Matt Barkley fell behind in the race early, leaving Vick and second-year passer Nick Foles vying for the starting role.
Vick, however, was seen as potentially the perfect fit for Kelly’s warp-speed offensive scheme. Now 33 years old and having taken a beaten in a dozen years in the league, some believed he might not have it in him.
However, he has posted a stellar 113.2 passer rating through the preseason compared to Foles’ 65.5.
Now the team can begin to rally around Vick heading into a huge year for the Eagles organization.
