On Thursday night, the Phoenix Suns unveiled redesigned home, road and alternate uniforms for the upcoming 2013-14 season. The new uniforms were shown off at Fashion Square Mall in Phoenix (following a lengthy buildup that featured several former stars and the jerseys they sported while in Phoenix, which can be seen in its entirety in the video below) and while there are going to be plenty of critics out there, there are some small details that we here at Uni Blog can appreciate.
First, on the home whites, the word “SUNS” across the front has been designed with a font that reads the same right-side up or upside-down. Pretty sneaky-clever move right there. Further, the parallel lines running away from the numbers on both the whites and purples (officially termed “speed rays” by the organization) serve a purpose as well. There are nine lines, one for each of the nine players in the franchise’s Ring of Honor.
Now, as for those deep orange alternates. adidas continues to shove sleeved jerseys down our throats, unfortunately. Despite the minimalist, slick new redesign on the whites and the decent purples (although purple in general is tough to pull) there is no doubt these oranges will be receiving the most (negative) attention.
The purples also include a questionable orange stripe across the back of the shorts which just feels unnecessary, although we don’t hate the rising sun on the bottom of the shorts.
You have to fast-forward roughly 40 minutes to see the new jerseys in the video clip, and below is a photo gallery of each of the new uniforms. Scroll through them and make the judgement for yourselves.
