A.J. McCarron, in his years at Alabama, has become increasingly known for two things: His performance under the pressure of the spotlight, and his graciousness as a human being.
On Saturday, he had to wait to put his gamesmanship on display until kickoff against Ole Miss. Beforehand, however, he once again showed us why he’s a class act: The star Tide quarterback will be wearing a purple bow tie and ribbon in honor of Olivia Mills and her family.
Mills, a 17-year-old Sipsey Valley High School (Tuscaloosa) senior, lost control of her car and crashed recently. She was in a coma as of Friday. The story of her faith and spirit has inspired thousands and rallied the community in a different way than the football team does, and now McCarron is showing his support as well.
He has worn bow ties for various causes in the past, such as wearing a pink one in support of breast cancer.
Just a fantastic representative of what being a student-athlete means.
