The trade that would make Paul Pierce, the second-most prolific scorer in Boston history, a member of the Nets, was consummated at the 2013 NBA Draft. The same trade would move Kevin Garnett, the superstar who left Minnesota in order to win a championship in Beantown and then went on to do exactly that.

But it was not “officially” official until Friday, July 12. Two of the biggest players in Celts history – Pierce is one of only three Celtics to appear in more than 1,000 career games for the franchise – are off to Brooklyn today. Not without a classy sendoff from the Boston Globe, however.

Such a great sports town, fans will boo those who aren’t cutting the mustard, but they will elevate those who sweat, bleed and win for their town to hero status.

Seeing Pierce and Garnett in black and white instead of green will be odd, but they will always be remembered as Celtics.

And as champions.
