In what was a terrifying moment for Nuggets fans, Denver’s mascot was totally limp as he was lowered onto the stadium floor for the team’s pre-game festivities. He then collapsed once his feet hit the floor.
ABC7 News in Denver has the report:
The plan was for Rocky to be lowered in a harness, with a spotlight on him, just before the home opener.
Fans were horrified when a lifeless Rocky was lowered to the center court where he immediately collapsed. The spotlight was quickly turned off.
Rocky was checked by doctors and taken off the court.
Word from the Nuggets was that Rocky had the wind knocked out of him and would be out for the remainder of the game.
Here’s hoping the man behind the mascot suit is doing fine and will be back at full health as soon as possible. As for the stunts, it might be just as easy to have the spotlight on him once he runs out of the tunnel – instead of bringing him down from the rafters.
It was a bad night all-around for Denver, as they were beaten by Portland, 113-98.
