With only 24 hours left to prepare for Toledo, Florida coach Will Muschamp announced the suspension of star defensive back/wide receiver Loucheiz Purifoy and several other Gators.
No players? No problem. Muschamp’s squad rolled over the Rockets in The Swamp, 24-6, on Saturday, powered by Mack Brown’s 112 yards on 25 carries. He found paydirt twice. Quarterback Jeff Driskel showed the type of improvement fans had been hoping to see. Again, he did not pile up elite yardage, but his efficiency was excellent: 17-of-22, 153 yards, one touchdown.
One of the biggest names offensively was actually someone who played defense for UF a year ago. Valdez showers took two rushes for 31 yards and hauled in four receptions for another 23.
Two superstar recruits made their first appearances for the Orange ‘n Blue, and looked fantastic. Kelvin Taylor, son of Gators legend Fred, took five rushes for 43 yards. Vernon Hargreaves III collected his first career interception.
All in all, it was a good win against a team that had collected nine of them the year before. Check out the photo gallery of the Saturday afternoon that was in The Swamp.
