TIME Magazine blew up the sporting world’s Thursday morning with a simple tweet: The internationally sold news source had put none other than Johnny Freaking Football on its cover, along with the title, “It’s Time to Pay College Athletes.”
It only took a little while, but never fear, we have found the alternate cover TIME just about went with before choosing the Heisman pose instead. It’s JFF doing what he does second-best: Poppin’ bottles.
Of course, when it comes to NCAA investigations into potential college scandals, the Texas A&M superstar is not even close to being alone.
Had TIME chosen to do so, it could have gone with a Will Hill cover. Since 2008, Hill has fathered four children through three different women, been married, separated and started working towards a divorce. The former Florida Gators safety could have used an extra couple of NCAA dollars, we’re assuming.
Of course, Jim Tressel lost his job as Ohio State coach after his players were caught selling team merchandise for tattoos. A little NCAA money would have helped those players buy the tattoos and Tressel would likely still be in Columbus today.
