The nation’s No. 1-rated recruit for the 2013 class made a huge splash when he announced his intention to sign on with Kansas rather Kentucky, where seemingly every other prep superstar pledged to enjoy at least one year of basketball.
The Jayhawks brass has apparently wasted very little time cashing in on the Canadian native’s internationally-publicized decision. Click on “Slam Dunk Savings on #22 KU Jersey!” on the KU Athletics website, and you are taken to the above purchasing page.
Now, one might try to point out that this is some sort of coincidence- Wiggins could wear any number he likes once he arrives on campus.
However, this scrimmage video clearly shows him dunking all over Cole Adrich, while sporting a blue No. 22 jersey. He also wore the same number growing up.
Is this the biggest deal in the world? Of course not. After all, walk into any store in College Station, Texas and there are “anonymous” No. 2 jerseys (for Heisman-winning Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, of course) as far as the eye can see.
The fact is still that Wiggins is NBA-ready, and thus ready for NBA millions. However, he will not see a cent from the sales of the above jersey, because playing for Kansas is still considered “amateurism.”
