Talk about a scary first date.
In anticipation of the upcoming NBA Draft, former Duke forward Ryan Kelly solidified another matter of his future happiness in proposing to longtime girlfriend Lindsay Cowher.
Yes, that Cowher.
Lindsay’s father, Bill, was the Super Bowl-winning football coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers and became known for his intense stare and even more intimidating jaw.
But none of that could keep Kelly from who he loves, even from an early age. The two began dating when they were starring on the men’s and women’s basketball teams at Ravenscroft High School in Raleigh. While Kelly could not turn down a scholarship to Duke (those that do generally wind up at Kentucky or North Carolina), Lindsay played at Wofford in 2009-10 before transferring to Elon to be closer to home — and to Kelly.
Kelly braved the father as an adolescent, and now the two are going to enter the professional sphere and adulthood together.
Talk about a successful first date.
