Michigan Stadium transforms for 2014 NHL Winter Classic hockey event

, , , ,

Typically after the football season Michigan Stadium would be resting quietly, entering the long offseason hibernation. Not this year, however. Crews at The Big House are currently working to prepare the massive football venue for a hockey event. On New Year’s Day, Michigan Stadium will play host to the 2014 NHL Winter Classic.

This year’s outdoor game will feature the home-state Detroit Red Wings against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The puck will drop at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Following is a photo gallery of the hockey rink being built and the surrounding areas and stands being prepared.
