Now that San Diego State, along with Boise State, has elected to remain in the Mountain West rather than join that scrapheap that is the future American Athletic Conference, the Aztecs have decided that the next step is a freshly revamped style.
Thus, the athletic program unveiled not so much as a total re-branding effort, but more of what the school’s Intsagram and Facebook accounts call a “refresh.” Above is the new logo that will be gracing the Aztecs’ football helmets in 2013. It features a smaller lettering and a slightly more dramatic feel. Don’t minimize the fact that it is set against black, either. The team has dropped the gold accent in favor of the red and black look.

Below that is the old ‘SD’ symbol for reference.
