If Plaxico Burress unveiling a line of socks at a New York City nightclub seems a bit ironic, it’s because it is.

Burress is now with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the former New York Jets and New York Giants wide receiver knows a thing or two about the Big Apple, it’s nightclubs and fashion.

Burress spent nearly two years in prison after he accidentally shot himself in the foot while in a New York City nightclub. What better way to exorcise his demons than to unveil a luxury line of hosiery atop a nightclub in the concrete jungle?

The unveiling of the Plaxico Burress Collection was hosted on a rooftop of a trendy club on Friday night, equipped with champagne and female models wearing nothing but tuxedo shirts and Burress’ socks.

According to Tony Gervino of The New York Times, Burress was all about fashion business at the event:

“I’ve been planning my sock line from behind the scenes for a couple of years; nobody even knew I was doing it,” said Burress, excited to talk about colorful socks instead of colorful former coaches. “So it’s a lot of hard work that got me to this point.”

“I’ve always considered myself a pretty stylish guy,” he said. “I may not have had the means to do so coming up. I had an eye for what looks good on me.”

Burress, who at 35 years old is nearing the end of his NFL career, is already preparing for life after football. The fashionista doesn’t plan to stop at just socks, either.

“The ultimate goal is to get into bow ties, cuff links and belts,” he said. “Definitely belts. Come on, who doesn’t need a great belt?”
