Former Alabama Crimson Tide star and current Arizona safety Rashad Johnson played out the Cardinals’ game against New Orleans with the tip of his finger completely detached.

You read that correctly: The 27-year old Johnson lost the tip of one of his fingers during the game and continued to play in the Cards’ 31-7 loss to the Saints.

Johnson, who is now officially a man’s man, had surgery on the digit about as soon as he could. If it didn’t sound gross enough yet, the bone was exposed on his finger.

Johnson believes he lost his finger chasing scat-back Darren Sproles around on a punt return. The doctors took what was left down to about the first knuckle.

No word has been released yet on whether or not Johnson will be missing any time due to the injury. Obviously, he didn’t miss any on Sunday, but the recovery could still wind up keeping him out.

He has started all three games of the 2013 season thus far, collecting 13 tackles.
