It was a legendary radio call that will go down as arguably the greatest in Iron Bowl history. In fact, Auburn’s play-by-play announcer Rod Bramblett’s call will be heard for generations to come.
With the Crimson Tide and Tigers tied at 28 points each, Alabama lined up for a 57-yard field goal attempt. If it went through, the Tide would have walked off winners in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Just as the kick is being booted, you can hear Bramblett say, “Well I guess if this thing comes up short, he can field it.”
Field it Chris Davis did. As Davis turned the left corner and blockers begin to line up, you can hear Bramblett’s voice start to rise. With each passing yardage there is more and more excitement in his voice. Once Davis crossed the 50-yard line and hit the 40, Davis let it loose – it was time to party on The Plains.
Following is a clip of his call from the 2013 Iron Bowl miracle being featured on ABC News.
