Behold, ladies and gentlemen, the combined powers of social media and a bored pro athlete still recovering from a torn meniscus. Russell Westbrook, perhaps looking for something to do that does not involve lip-syncing Taylor Swift songs (we can think of a zillion things we’d rather do, but then again, we don’t have a crutch at our disposal to use as an air guitar), helped an Oklahoma City brudda pull off a pretty legit marriage proposal.

Apparently, Charlie Bright reached out to Westbrook on Facebook a little while back. He asked the superstar to help him out with a proposal for the ages, and the two worked out a schedule.

First, Bright took his girlfriend, Rachel Haycraft, to Oklahoma’s Gaylord Memorial Stadium and under the clock tower, where he would propose. Then, at exactly 4:30, he told her to check her Twitter feed.

That’s where Mr. Westbrook came in:

Talk about a whirlwind.

“I’m on Twitter a lot anyway, but I’ve never really had someone suggest, ‘Hey, why don’t you check Twitter right now,’” Haycraft told News OK. “But he asked me to get on there and I did and I saw on the app that Russell had mentioned me and I was like, ‘Why did Russell mention me?’ Then I looked at the tweet and was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is crazy’. First of all that Russell Westbrook is tweeting at me and then that you are asking to marry me, it was all wrapped into one, it was crazy.”

“When she (checked),” Bright said, “I got down on one knee and asked her if she’d marry me and luckily she said yes.” Finally, Westbrook was sent a shot of the happy couple, complete with OKC shirts and the ring.

Just chalk this classy move up to one more assist from the point guard who has doled out plenty over his young career.
